Eggs are an important product in children's menus. The baby begins to be given eggs at this age: a hard-boiled yolk from 7-9 months, depending on the type of feeding, and the baby is introduced to the protein only after a year. When can you make an omelet for a baby, what recipe should you choose for baby food, and what eggs are best to use for an omelet intended for a child?

Omelette for children is prepared from both chicken and quail eggs

Benefit

  • The omelet contains many valuable nutrients, such as vitamin A for healthy skin and better vision, B vitamins to improve metabolic processes and nervous system function, and vitamin D to support bone health. In addition, omelet is rich in potassium, iron, copper and phosphorus.
  • The omelet contains the substance lutein, known for its antioxidant properties and ability to lower blood cholesterol.
  • Omelette is considered a light and gentle dish, so it can be included in the diet of children with diseases of the digestive tract.
  • Proteins from omelettes are well absorbed and provide the child’s body with the entire range of amino acids.

Harm and contraindications

  • Eggs are considered an allergenic product, which often causes reactions in childhood.
  • Excessive consumption of protein foods, which include eggs, can negatively affect kidney function.
  • Frying an omelet in a frying pan makes the product unhealthy due to the formation of carcinogenic compounds when the oil is heated.
  • If the heat treatment of the omelet is insufficient, there is a risk of salmonellosis being transmitted through this dish.

Omelette cooked in a steam or water bath is much healthier

From what month can it be introduced into the diet?

Omelettes can be included in the menu of a child who is one year old, since both cow's milk and egg white, on the advice of pediatricians, are introduced into the child's diet after 12 months.

Like any new dish, it should be given to the baby in small quantities. For the omelet, you need to use fresh eggs and milk intended for baby food. If you take village milk for a dish, you should definitely boil it first. Omelettes for babies are baked or steamed - the fried version can be introduced to the baby after 3 years.

How often can a 1 year old child eat an omelet?

The frequency of consumption of egg dishes, which includes omelettes, depends on the norms of egg consumption for a one-year-old child. Since children of this age are recommended to eat up to half an egg per day, if boiled eggs and other egg dishes are not on the menu, you can prepare an omelet from 1 egg three times a week.

Are quail or chicken eggs better for complementary feeding?

A chicken egg is considered a very allergenic product, so for children who are predisposed to allergies, it is better to take a quail egg for an omelet. They cause a reaction much less frequently than chicken ones.

For children's omelettes, it is better to take quail eggs: they are more healthy and less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Quail eggs contain more microelements and vitamins. At the same time, the nutritional value of these two types of eggs is similar, but quail eggs are better digestible. It is only important to remember that for any omelet recipe you need to replace chicken eggs with at least twice as many quail eggs.

How to cook?

Traditionally, two main ingredients are used for an omelet – eggs and milk. If you replace milk with sour cream, you will get a less fluffy dish, but its taste will be very delicate. Prepare a dish from several eggs at once, and give the child the middle part, as it turns out to be the fluffiest.

From yolks

An omelet, for which you do not take whole eggs, but only the yolks, is suitable for feeding babies under one year old. This dish can be prepared for babies aged 10-11 months. In addition, this version of the omelet is suitable for children with an allergy to egg whites. To prepare it, beat one yolk, gradually add about 60 ml of breast milk (or baby formula) and add a tablespoon of semolina. The whipped mixture is poured into a mold and baked in the oven.

Omelette cooked in the oven or steamed will be much healthier for the child

Steamed recipe

Beat one egg with a fork or blender for about 20 seconds, then add about 50 ml of milk to it, add a little salt and continue beating. After pouring the resulting mixture into a glass bowl (it is important to fill it at most halfway), place it in a pan filled with water (the water in the pan should also reach half of the omelette pan). Keep the omelette on low heat with the lid closed until fully cooked.

In a slow cooker

This device allows you to prepare an omelette for the whole family at once. You will need approximately 250 ml of milk and 7 eggs. Beat eggs with milk in a mixer at low speed or with a whisk. Pour the resulting mixture into the oiled multicooker bowl. Set the “baking” mode and cook the dish for 15 minutes.

In the microwave

This omelet turns out fluffy and airy, even if you do not add milk or flour to the eggs. Take 2 eggs and 75 ml of milk, beat these ingredients with a blender and pour into a greased ovenproof dish. You can add vegetables, apples, cheese and other additives to eggs.

The duration of cooking will be determined by the power of the stove, and on average will be from 3 to 5 minutes. If you are preparing an omelette for the first time, monitor its readiness. If you decide to make an omelet in the microwave without milk, beat the yolks separately, then the whites, and then combine them.

Omelette cooked in the microwave is airy

In a steamer

Take two eggs and two tablespoons of milk. Whisk these ingredients, adding a little salt. Grease a mold with butter, pour the egg-milk mixture into it and place in a double boiler. After 10-15 minutes, you can treat your baby to a delicious steamed omelette.

In the oven

This omelette will turn out very fluffy if you do not open the oven while baking it for at least the first twenty minutes (then the dish will not settle). The omelette mold should only be filled halfway with the mixture of eggs and milk, as the original volume will double when cooked.

Recipes with additives

If you want to prepare an omelet for your child with some kind of filling, the ingredients for it should be prepared separately and added to the omelet in finished form. For example, these can be frozen or fresh vegetables, which are first stewed over low heat in a cauldron or in a slow cooker, and then poured with eggs beaten with milk.

For a sweet omelet with fruit, take one egg, 50 ml of milk and 100 g of fruit. Apples are great as fruit for omelettes. Take one large apple, peel and cut into slices, then simmer in a small amount of butter. Pour beaten eggs and milk over the apples, and you can sprinkle the finished omelet with a little grape sugar.

Another interesting option for an omelet for a child over a year old is a dish with meat. It requires boiled chicken fillet, which is placed in a heat-resistant form, two beaten eggs with a small amount of milk are poured on top, and then steamed or cooked in the oven. Also, children over one year old will enjoy an omelet with pasta, cottage cheese, and low-fat cheese.

  • A fresh chicken egg should not be light, and when shaken, nothing should gurgle inside the egg.
  • The color of the shell does not affect the quality of the egg, but in a fresh product the shell will have a slight shine.
  • Do not purchase eggs for children's omelettes from dubious places. It is better to buy them from a trusted seller or store, making sure that the product has the appropriate signs.
  • Do not buy eggs that are cracked or chipped, or eggs that are very dirty or have been washed. Remember that washed eggs have a shorter shelf life, since washing removes the protective film from the shell and the egg begins to deteriorate.
  • Don't assume that the largest eggs are the best choice. Larger eggs contain more water and fewer nutrients because these eggs are laid by older hens. It is best to take eggs of the second category for your baby (they are laid by young hens and such eggs have a very pleasant taste) or first category (they have the most balanced composition).

At home, you can easily check whether an egg is fresh by placing it in cool water. A good egg will sink, but if the product is not fresh, the egg will float.

Look at the recipe for an omelette on the “Mom’s Everyday Life” channel, which shows a recipe for an omelette in a water bath.

The menu for the youngest family members should be nourishing, balanced and varied. According to the baby food guide, eggs should be introduced into the diet of babies from the age of 1 year. Children do not always like to use this product dry. That is why mothers are trying to invent a dish with this ingredient that is suitable for the child’s delicate digestive system. We offer to prepare a delicious and healthy omelet. In our article you will find recipes for preparing omelets for a child in a slow cooker, from one year of age to the older age category.

Protein is a product that can cause an allergic reaction. If the baby is familiar with the milk that is included in this omelet, then egg white is a completely new product for a small organism. That is why egg whites should be introduced into the diet of a one-year-old child carefully and in small portions. If you are giving this product to your baby for the first time, start with a small piece. Next time, increase the portion a little. If there are no reactions, you can gradually increase the portion volume to the desired size.

Omelet for a child in a slow cooker. Video

At the beginning of complementary feeding, children are allowed only yolks, as the least allergenic component of eggs. The time when you can give an omelet to your child or add whole eggs to other dishes comes after 1 year. At the same time, the baby’s need for easily digestible proteins increases, which can be easily satisfied with egg dishes.

Timing for introducing eggs into the diet

Poultry eggs have high biological value. Pediatricians consider them a source of high-quality proteins for children. Proteins are structural components of all living cells, therefore they are vital for the full physical and mental development of the infant. Protein reserves in the body are minimal. As soon as there is not enough of it in the diet, muscle tissue begins to break down. Egg whites are complete, meaning they contain a full list of essential amino acids. Its nutritional value and ease of digestion are comparable to breast milk proteins.

Other substances in eggs that have a significant impact on the development of the child:

Useful material Effect on the body
LipidsHigh level of phospholipids, healthy unsaturated fatty acids predominate. They are involved in metabolism, are responsible for immunity, and improve brain function.
VitaminsB2Necessary for the growth of a child and the development of his nervous system. Participates in protein metabolism.
B12The work of the nervous system, participation in the process of formation of red blood cells.
AGood vision, low susceptibility to infections, healthy skin and mucous membranes. In mothers with vitamin A deficiency, the supply of vitamin A in milk after 6 months is insufficient. Unlike vegetables, eggs contain the vitamin in a “ready” form.
ZincSkin regeneration, physical development.
SodiumAcid-base balance, all types of electrical activity of cells.

Eggs are introduced into the diet of infants no earlier than 8 months. By this time, the baby should be familiar with basic vegetables, fruits, grains, and meat. Complementary feeding begins with egg yolk. For children under one year old, four chicken or 10 quail yolks per week is enough. They can be added to soups, vegetable purees, and made into yolk omelettes.

In the absence of an allergic reaction to the yolk, children from 1 year of age begin to receive protein. At first, it is added little by little to dishes, monitoring for possible allergies. If there are no adverse reactions, you can introduce dishes made from whole eggs - omelettes, casseroles, puddings.

Children are allowed only heat-treated eggs, as raw ones can cause salmonellosis. Preferred cooking methods are baking, boiling and steaming. It is not advisable to give fried foods before the age of three.

How to choose products

Requirements for products from which an omelet is prepared for a one-year-old child:

  1. Industrially produced eggs are preferable for making omelettes, since chickens at poultry farms are required to be vaccinated and tested for dangerous diseases. It is believed that eggs from free-range chickens are healthier. In your child’s menu, you can only use eggs from your own farmstead, and not those bought at the market. Eggs that have been stored for less than a week are considered dietary.
  2. Children under 2 years of age are given milk with a natural fat content of about 3.5% to satisfy the increased need for lipids. After 2 years, dairy products with reduced fat content are preferred, but not completely fat-free.
  3. Additional components of the omelet are boiled meat and vegetables, which the child is familiar with and tolerates well. Sausages are prohibited at this age. An omelet for children aged 1 year can also be a sweet dish. In this case, fruit purees are added to it, jelly or syrup is poured over it.
  4. Salt is an essential component of adult dishes. It is a source of sodium, a seasoning and even an antiseptic. It is not advisable to use salt in children during the complementary feeding period. From 1 year of age, the use of salt in the diet is limited, and dishes are prepared with the most natural taste possible. If you're making an omelet for everyone, remove the child's portion first and then add the spices and salt for the rest of the family.

Omelette recipes

Secrets of a lush, delicious omelette:

  • Children prefer soufflé omelettes. To prepare them, separate the whites, beat them into foam, then add the yolks and other components;
  • the dish is baked immediately after beating until the foam has settled;
  • In order for the omelette to remain fluffy and not fall off, there should be 1 spoon of milk per 1 chicken egg in the recipe;
  • if you want to prepare an omelette with a denser consistency, add a little (1.5 tablespoons for 4 eggs) flour or semolina;
  • additional components that are added to the omelet should not be cold;
  • It’s better to cook an omelet for the whole family at once, so it will turn out more delicious.

Steam omelette

The most delicate dietary version of an omelet for a child is a steam one. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can get by with a colander and a large saucepan. Boiling water is poured into the bottom of the pan, a colander is placed on top so that it does not touch the water, and a container (bowl, silicone or glass mold) with the egg mixture is placed in it. The entire structure is covered with a lid or food foil.

Ingredients for a traditional steamed omelet: 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of milk, a little vegetable oil, salt as desired.

Multicooker omelet

The undoubted advantage of this dish is its ease of preparation. While the omelette is baking, you don’t need to watch it and you can fully engage with your child. The optimal number of eggs for this recipe is 6-8 pieces, so it is better to prepare it for breakfast for the whole family.

To guarantee a juicy and fluffy omelette in a slow cooker for a child over 1 year old, the following recipe works well:

  5. To prevent the dish from settling, leave it for 10 minutes under the closed lid of the turned off multicooker.

This recipe for a child can be varied by adding tomatoes, sweet peppers, chicken, cauliflower or broccoli, zucchini, and hard cheese. Meat, cabbage, zucchini must first be boiled or steamed, tomatoes must be doused with boiling water and the skins removed.

Protein-free omelet

A good recipe for children under one year old and babies with protein allergies. Preparation procedure:

  2. Add semolina (a teaspoon per 1 yolk), mix, and leave for 15 minutes to swell.
  3. Pour into the pan and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes.

The omelet according to this recipe is dense and has a neutral taste. It can be served to a child with stewed vegetables and fruit syrup or puree.

Omelette without milk

Cow's milk is introduced into the diet of children no earlier than 9 months. If your baby is not yet familiar with this product or does not tolerate it well, you can prepare an omelet without milk.

Classic omelette with butter: beat 3 eggs, pour in 55 g of melted butter, stirring constantly. Cook in the oven or steam.

Recipe for children using formula milk:

  1. We make 50 g of milk mixture using the usual proportions, dilute 0.5 tsp in it. flour.
  2. Beat 1 yolk and mix with the mixture. You can add a little oil.
  3. Pour the mixture into a bowl and microwave at half power for 2 minutes.

Omelette for dessert

If your baby refuses traditional omelettes, you can feed him eggs using unusual sweet recipes. One of them is the Brazilian banana omelette. To prepare it you need 1 banana, 2 eggs, any natural fruit syrup. Finely chop the banana and place it in a bowl. Add the eggs and stir with a fork until smooth. Grease the mold with oil, put the mixture in it and prepare it in any convenient way. Serve the finished omelette with caramel or fruit syrup.

Another recipe for a sweet omelet for children came to us from Canada. It's easy to prepare: put a frying pan on the fire, pour 3 tablespoons of maple syrup into it and let it heat up. Beat in 2 eggs and cook over low heat, stirring constantly. The white should set, not fry. At the end, we form a thick pancake from the mixture, transfer it to a plate, and put a piece of butter on top. Thanks to the syrup, the omelette turns out sweet, with a pronounced caramel taste.

Omelette in water and on water

An original omelet recipe for a 1 year old child without milk. It is not made in a mold, like the previous ones, but in a baking bag. To prepare an omelet, mix well, but do not beat 5 eggs, pour in a third of a glass of water, and mix again. Then pour the mixture into the bag, after checking it for holes, and tie it with thread.

Place the bag in a pan of boiling water for 20 minutes so that the egg mixture is completely submerged in water and the tie remains on top. After 20 minutes, take out the omelette, cut it into portions and put it in the refrigerator. A dish prepared according to this recipe can be eaten cold or reheated without losing its taste or shape.
