Your repairman. Finishing work, exterior, preparatory

The question of how to use mounting foam, sooner or later, may become relevant for you. First of all, such a moment is brewing if you started repairing an old one or building a new one. It is during this period of time that most often there is a real need to close up joints and cracks. And they are best dealt with - yes, that's right, polyurethane foam.

This sealant is one of the most sought after among the different types of sealants available. It is the foam that will allow you to process high-quality seams and various joints, whose width is more than three centimeters. The material that is so necessary in everyday life is sold in metal aerosol spray cans, it has a rather small weight, but, despite this, its concentration is very high. So, from one balloon, over 40 liters of foam are obtained for puttying joints and cracks. Using the video tutorials, you can learn how to properly use the foam assistant for installation work in your home and not have problems with drafts.

When starting to work with this substance, remember that it hardens very quickly under the influence of moisture and at the same time greatly increases in volume after using the can. The formed porous substance has excellent heat-insulating properties. Along with this, given the possibility of a long service life of this material, it is understandable why mounting foam is recognized as an indispensable assistant in construction and repair. It is the mounting foam that will allow you to seal the seams, glue certain structural details, successfully fix the joints and, importantly, provide these places with heat and sound insulation.

Such a miracle solution is divided into several types - there are semi-professional and professional (pistol), it happens in winter, summer and for all seasons. It was no coincidence that such a convenient design was invented - it is easy to displace mounting foam from cylinders with the help of special gas. So the liquid polymer on the surface to be coated successfully hardens and forms a rigid frame (polyurethane foam).

So, it makes sense to choose miracle foam in the store for its main properties - thermal insulation, sound insulation, ease of installation, the ability to connect, fasten and glue various parts. At the same time, given the ability to expand, the mounting foam successfully fills hard-to-reach joints and seams, and when it hardens itself, it does not require special attention in the future. Previously, only cement mortar could replace foam in this field, but its preparation is a more time-consuming process than working with an aerosol can. Therefore, choosing convenience and simplicity, many prefer polyurethane foam. Moreover, it is successfully combined in work with stone, and with concrete, and with wood, and with metal, and with plaster, and glass.

Using mounting foam is not a laborious process at all. It's convenient and simple. However, you need to know certain details in order not to screw up.

Firstly, installation work is best done in the warm season. From mid-spring to mid-autumn. The optimal temperature outside the window for such manipulations is from plus 5 to plus 30 degrees. Experts guarantee that it is in this case that the curing process occurs best. If you really can't wait to do this in the winter, there are seasonal winter foams for this.

Secondly, do not work with this substance without gloves. This is often overlooked by workers. However, such connivance is quite dangerous.

Third, don't try to use the substance wherever you please. If you are going to seal a gap from 1 to 8 cm wide, the use of foam is allowed and encouraged. But if the size of the gap is much larger, then it is better to take materials such as wood or plastic, you can brick or foam. And if at all less than a centimeter - you can get by with putty. And do not forget - after sealing your cracks, you need to cut off excess foam (it is not recommended to tear it off with your hands).

Fourth, before using the foam, it is desirable to treat the hollow space with water. Then, with the appropriate air humidity, the process of expansion and solidification of the foam will be much faster and more correct. Air humidity for polymerization is sufficient in the range of 60–80 percent.

Fifth, the foam can must be shaken well before use. And this should be done not for a couple of seconds, but for about a minute. This time will be enough for the contents in the balloon to become a completely homogeneous mass.

So, the can is in your hands. You have previously shaken the mixture and now you can remove the cap. After screwing the existing installed tubing onto the adapter, the cylinder should be turned upside down. This is how it is used during installation work. This nuance is important due to the fact that the gas that displaces the mounting foam is much lighter than the rest of the components, and when the cylinder is upside down, all the components of the mixture mix better.

Now you can safely apply the foam. Given the fact that it increases in volume, it is necessary to close the gaps by no more than a third. The volume will increase by 2-3 times over a short period of time, and then you can cut off the excess (it is better to do this with a sharp knife with a long handle). If you need to apply the foam not horizontally, but vertically, then you should fill it from the bottom up - it’s more convenient for you and the foam (a base will appear for which the sealant that has not yet hardened can be fixed).

It will be necessary to sprinkle with water not only cracks, but also foam after application. So the freezing process will be faster. If you see that the foam is not enough for you, wait about half an hour for the previous layer to harden, and you can add a little foam to the same areas. However, do not overdo it - you still do not need too much.

The applied layer of foam at a time should not exceed three to four centimeters, and if the gap or cavity is still larger, then the foam is applied sequentially in layers - one after the other.

After application, the foam will finally harden after 8 hours. So do not try to start subsequent work (rearrange furniture, glue wallpaper, nail shelves) in this area immediately. Moreover, after drying and removing the excess, the joints must be treated with a protective material (it is better to do this with putty, plaster, paint or cement). Can be used as a protective layer and a special silicone sealant. A polyurethane sealing tape will also help for these purposes. This will not only protect the mounting foam from exposure to ultraviolet rays, but also increase the service life. After processing, it is already possible to use and, as well as move further in the realization of your fantasies.

Your foam should be elastic and adhere well to the surface. The fact that after shrinkage, having frozen completely, it will not crumble will also speak about its quality. Do not add additional work to yourself - it is impossible to touch and process the mounting foam until the final hardening, so as not to change the very structure of the material and not interfere with the polymerization process.

If the material meets the existing standards, then you will be satisfied with the quality. This means that you do not need to redo the work done. Just keep in mind that different manufacturers offer cans with different foam output. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy an expensive can of aerosol that will last all your joints than it is to buy two cheaper ones.

When buying polyurethane foam, remember that the balloon is designed for one-time use only. So don't try to divide by two. Calculating the volume is not difficult if you have already had experience with similar material. If not, it is better to consult with those who work in the construction industry or with the seller in the store. Reusing the same balloon is allowed only if you are going to "repeat the maneuver" in the near future. Then, at the end of the first stage of work, you need to rinse the tube itself (gun) and the valve with a special cleaning liquid. However, workers at the sites often do not do this.

Useful tips and secrets of working with the material:

  • Prepare a water sprayer and a pruning knife in advance.
  • It’s good if you have a soft sponge and acetone at hand - they help to scrub off the foam that has stuck in unnecessary places.
  • If you use mounting foam economically, you can get by with fewer cans.
  • It is better to carry out surface treatment (cutting with a knife) after applying the foam after about 4 hours have passed - after 7-8 hours the foam will harden completely and it will be much more difficult to cope with it.
  • Use a respirator (protect your body from unnecessary chemicals). It would be great if they also have glasses and gloves.
  • Ventilate the room (unless, of course, you just decided to do it in the same room).
  • Do not wait until the foam darkens - a change in color is already an indicator that a reaction is underway and the process of exposure to ultraviolet rays (initially it is light yellow in color).
  • Do not use the cylinder near the fire and do not leave it in direct sunlight (this is a familiar rule to everyone, however, many do not follow it and run the risk of facing the consequences of a fire and the firemen who have arrived in the future). Indeed, the composition of this polyurethane foam sealant includes various flammable materials that can lead to undesirable consequences. Your foam can belong to one of three classes - fire-fighting, self-extinguishing or combustible (it is better to find out in advance).
  • Problems can also arise if the foam is applied to a dirty surface (for example, when using such materials, window frames are cleaned with a vacuum cleaner).

The viscosity of the product may not meet the standards if the foam bottle was at temperatures below plus 5. The required consistency will be violated even if the air temperature rises to 30–35 degrees (only all-weather foam can work at temperatures from minus 10 to plus 40 degrees) .

So if you have taken into account all the tips and secrets listed here, you can safely start sealing window, door blocks or other structures in the rooms of a house or apartment with mounting foam. Also, with the help of this material, it will be easier for you to cope with the insulation of the distribution network and with the sealing of different widths of seams and cracks, and in addition, your assistant - foam will help you easily and simply fill unnecessary voids in the walls. So keep it up and good luck with your renovation!

Everyone knows that in the modern world, mounting foam is used in almost all types of repair and construction work, where its properties are needed. This building material is used to install doors, windows, window sills, sandwich panels and all kinds of insulation for pipelines are made from mounting foam, it is widely used to insulate large containers, such as water heaters, and similar products. The main advantage of this building material is ease of use, which we will talk about on the pages of the website site. In addition, we will also answer questions about how to use mounting foam, what types of foam are there and how to choose the right one?

How to use polyurethane foam: what to choose, professional or household material

Today, modern industry produces three main types of mounting foam - professional and household cylinders. There is also the so-called two-component polyurethane foam, which we will not consider in this article for one simple reason - it is used exclusively for industrial purposes. What is the difference between professional and household polyurethane foam? Which one should be preferred?

The answer to this question lies in the plane of your activity. If, due to the specifics of the work, you are faced with its use every day, then it is undoubtedly necessary to opt for a professional version of polyurethane sealant. Professional polyurethane foam has one significant advantage - thanks to the one used for its use, the foam yield from one cylinder is much greater. Thanks to the same tool, a can of professional polyurethane foam can be used for a long time, and it will not dry out. Unlike professional, household polyurethane foam is intended exclusively for one-time use - the remnants of this material will surely dry out in a balloon after a day.

In addition, when identifying the differences between household and professional foam, one should also pay attention to the characteristics of this building material - the foam density in professional cylinders is much higher, and their filling is also greater. The only thing that surpasses professional household mounting foam is in cost, as well as the absence of the need to use a gun for mounting foam, which, by the way, is also expensive.

Foam gun photo

Now about quality. As a rule, construction foam sold today can have different qualities, which is quite difficult to assess by the type of cylinder. In principle, you can focus on the price, or you can resort to the experience and observation of professionals. The fact is that all the qualities of mounting foam can be determined, as they say, offhand: by the weight of the cylinder and how its contents behave when gently shaken.

A high-quality foam canister is heavier, and when shaken, its contents roll heavily from one end of the container to the other. You need to feel it - just take and compare two cylinders of the same volume, but different in price. Believe me, the difference will be noticeable immediately.

Construction mounting foam: how to work with it

It is customary to write instructions point by point - this is how we will answer the question of how to properly use mounting foam.

  • It doesn't matter which bottle of foam you have purchased (professional or household), the first thing to do is warm it up in hot water and shake it well. This is necessary in order to mix the gas and liquid component of the foam, thus increasing the yield of foam from one cylinder.
  • Then we screw the tube that comes with it onto the household cylinder, and install the professional one on the gun.

How to use mounting foam photo

  • Now about the surface on which it is planned to apply the mounting foam. First, it must be cleaned of dust and dirt. Secondly, moisten with plenty of water. The fact is that the polymerization process of polyurethane sealant is much better at high humidity. In addition, the mounting foam adheres better to the surface moistened with water, which is by no means of no small importance when blowing out large cracks - the foam does not fall out of them, as it happens when working with dry surfaces.
  • At this step, let's talk directly about the process of applying mounting foam. There is nothing complicated here - the only thing you have to do is get used to dosing the foam output from the cylinder. In this regard, it is much easier to work with a professional foam bottle and a gun - the dosage of the foam output is carried out by a special valve. In household cylinders, this process has to be regulated by pressing the cylinder valve. And one more nuance - in the process of foaming, the balloon must be kept with the valve down.

Mounting foam: instructions for use

  • After that, we wait until the foam hardens. How long does mounting foam dry? As a rule, the complete polymerization of this building material is carried out within 6–8 hours. So, at least, the manufacturer claims, but in practice the situation is a little different - the solidification time of the foam depends on its volume and can reach up to 12 hours.
  • When the foam hardens, its excess is cut off with a sharp knife or a metal file.
  • Polyurethane foam is a material sensitive to ultraviolet rays - it collapses under their influence, changes color and crumbles. If we are talking about the use of polyurethane sealant on the street, then after drying and removing excess, the foam must be covered with cement mortar.

How to remove mounting foam photo

As you can see, the question of how to use mounting foam has a fairly simple answer. If you do everything right and fully comply with the technology for applying polyurethane sealant, then with its help you can easily fill spaces of any size, including in the ceiling.

Polyurethane mounting foam is an excellent sealant and insulation. It is used both for the installation of such large-scale structures as doors and windows, and for the repair of minor defects. This material is used to patch various cracks and crevices, restore tightness at the joints, and even make other building materials. Foamed polyurethane is quite easy to use, but you need to follow certain rules for working with it, be quite careful so that the seam is even and lasts a long time.

Peculiarities

The hardened polyurethane foam is an elastic solid material of a yellowish-white color. This very light substance has excellent heat and noise insulation performance. It very quickly loses its properties under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, therefore it is mainly used indoors.

Such foam has a number of advantages that favorably distinguish it from other materials:

  • increased moisture resistance, high rates of sound and heat insulation;
  • low current conductivity, which allows it to be used in the installation of electrical networks;
  • many types of foam are resistant to fire, which allows expanding the scope of its application;
  • after exiting the cylinder, such foam expands in volume and fills even those microcracks into which it is impossible to insert a gun tube;
  • polyurethane can be used to glue surfaces made of different materials, such as wood or brick;
  • the foam is completely non-toxic, while being resistant to chemical attack.

Almost all of the above properties must be specified by the manufacturer in the appropriate certificates, which can be requested from the seller.

The following information should be printed on the packaging itself:

  • foam expansion volume. It can be from 10 to 300%, but most often, in fact, the foam still turns out to be somewhat less, since this percentage is indicated for ideal conditions;
  • its viscosity;
  • the volume of the container itself.

Most often, all these characteristics depend on the type and purpose of the foam, so you need to know which polyurethane and what it should be used for.

Release form

All types of polyurethane insulation differ in several criteria.

Depending on the method of application and the form of release, they can be of two types.

  • Professional foam is produced in special cylinders that are inserted into a plastic gun with metal clips. Such a gun allows you to use polyurethane economically and in equal portions. The main thing is to thoroughly rinse the device after use so that the remnants of the substance in it do not freeze.
  • Household foam packs are equipped with a small tube instead of a gun, which is put on the lever. It is not suitable for large repairs, but it will perfectly cope with minor flaws.

Depending on what time of the year and at what temperature the polyurethane will expand and solidify, the following types of mounting foam are distinguished:

  • summer - used at temperatures from +5 to +35 degrees;
  • winter - used at temperatures from -18 to +35 degrees;
  • universal - it costs much more, but it can be used all year round.

It should be noted that the temperature ranges are indicated not for air, but for the surface on which the composition will be applied. The lower its temperature, the less will be the expansion of the finished layer.

In addition, foam may vary in types depending on the flammability class:

  • B3 - combustible substance;
  • В2 – self-extinguishing substance;
  • B1 - refractory compositions.

Finally, mounting foams differ in composition. They can be one- or two-component. However, the latter type of foam is so difficult to handle that it is practically not used for private construction and do-it-yourself renovation of the premises. Two-component foam hardens in a quarter of an hour and there is practically no time left to eliminate defects, therefore only experienced professional builders use it.

Scope of application

Most often, mounting foam is used in the process of installing windows and doors, laying electrical wiring and pipelines. Due to the high thermal insulation in this way, it is possible to foam seams and recesses in cooling and heating systems, cracks in the roof and when insulating the surface of walls, floors or ceilings. It perfectly fastens wall panels and foam boards, providing excellent waterproofing. It is applied outside steel baths or cast iron baths to reduce heat transfer from the metal when the bath is filled with hot water. With the help of polyurethane, you can insulate the space behind the sheathing of PVC panels. In almost half of the repair processes, it remains an indispensable material.

In order to avoid any problems both with minor and major repairs of your own house or apartment, you need to be able to use both professional and household mounting foam. To work correctly with the first, you must correctly install and use a special construction gun.

Gun installation includes the following steps:

  • to begin with, the foam balloon is heated in warm water to room temperature, after which it is vigorously shaken for 30 seconds. This will give the polyurethane a homogeneous state, which will allow it to exit the cylinder smoothly and in full;
  • the protective cap is removed from the upper container of the gun, it is turned with the handle down and the cylinder is screwed into it. The container is screwed in with force until a hiss appears, which means that the mixture has begun to flow into the tool;
  • if the gun was previously used and was not washed well, then hissing will not be heard and you will have to purchase a new tool;
  • the system of connected elements is shaken strongly a few more times, turn the adjustment screw a quarter of a turn and, holding the trigger, begin to apply.

Working with such equipment does not require specific skills, but will require considerable dexterity if this is the first time.

Applying foam from a gun is carried out as follows:

  • first you need to clean the work surface from dust and dirt, then lightly wet it with a conventional sprayer, since the foam interacts better with a wet surface;
  • the tool nozzle is directed to the surface;
  • foam is supplied in the right amount by smoothly pressing the trigger;
  • to pour the composition into a vertical recess, it must be applied from the bottom up;
  • wide spaces are filled with zigzag movements by no more than a third of the volume, since the foam expands greatly in air;
  • it is better to supplement the area after than to cut off the excess of the solidified substance.

The gun barrel is quite long by itself, but in order to glue materials in hard-to-reach places, for example, to fill the voids between a false wall, you should additionally purchase an extension hose that is put on it.

Despite the fact that the packaging most often indicates a hardening time of up to 8 hours, in fact this process can take up to half a day. After complete solidification, the excess is cut off with an ordinary clerical knife or a metal file.

Unlike a handy construction gun, household polyurethane foam is equipped with just a small PVC tube, which is put on the adapter. In principle, the sequence of work itself is practically the same, however, more efforts will have to be made to fill the gap of the same volume. Such a tube is convenient for small volumes of work, because with it it is impossible to release the solution in equal portions. In addition, the balloon has to be constantly kept upside down, which is why the arm is constantly numb, so it is difficult to maintain smooth movements. If such a tube and adapter were not sold complete with polyurethane insulation, then you will have to buy them separately.

You will learn more about how to use mounting foam from the video.

Most often, mounting foam is purchased in the right amount at a time and after use, even if it is unfinished, it is thrown away. And also it is not bought in advance, as it has a limited shelf life. It is worth considering in more detail the nuances described below in order to be able to save.

Can it be applied multiple times?

It is widely believed among buyers that professional foam with a gun can be reused, but a household variety with a flexible tube, alas, is disposable and cannot be reapplied to the surface. Indeed, most often, if you leave the cylinder on the gun and block the trigger with a dispenser, the gun will not allow air to enter the cylinder and the composition will not harden. At the next use, it will be enough to remove the remnants of the hardened foam from the nozzle and you can start working again. However, exactly the same can be achieved from a household remedy. To do this, you need to start releasing foam from the cylinder, but, without letting it go out, bend and pull the soft tube with a wire. The foam at its end will harden, but the fold will not allow air to penetrate further and spoil the entire volume of the substance. At the next use, the cured edge of the PVC tube is simply cut off and the foam is ready for use. The container can be stored in this form for no more than a few weeks.

If you started a renovation in an apartment, then at certain stages you will have to think about how to use mounting foam, if you have not encountered this before. Despite the fact that this material cannot be called an innovation in the construction industry, not everyone knows the rules for its use, as well as its advantages and disadvantages.

Nuances when using polyurethane foam

Mounting foam is used not only by professional builders, but also by people who repair their homes, cottages or other premises with their own hands. It is necessary for fixing products, improving thermal and sound insulation and sealing.

Due to its wide area of application, polyurethane foam is rapidly replacing cement, putty, bitumen and tow from the construction market. It's easy to explain. If you have never used this product during repair and construction work, then simply because you did not know all its advantages, which are very numerous.

So, here is a list of some of the benefits that you will experience when using mounting foam:

  • high rates of thermal insulation;
  • short drying time;
  • ease of work;
  • good sound insulation;
  • stable sealing;
  • elasticity of polyurethane;
  • reliable fastening of products;
  • interaction with almost all types of building materials, with the exception of silicone, teflon and polyethylene;
  • increase in volume several times;
  • moisture resistance;
  • resistance to fire;
  • poor electrical conductivity;
  • filling all gaps and cracks, even in hard-to-reach places;
  • if necessary, excess material can be cut with a knife;
  • when used as fasteners, there is no need to use additional fixing means;
  • unaffected by chemicals.

However, like any material, foam has some disadvantages:

  • certain requirements for temperature and humidity during operation;
  • instability to ultraviolet radiation;
  • when using, protective equipment for eyes and hands is required;
  • difficult dismantling.

As you can see, there are quite a few cons, moreover, they can be avoided if the technology of use is followed.

Material application technology

Before starting work, take care of the protective measures by wearing gloves and goggles. Next, moisten the surface to be treated and shake the can thoroughly several times.

When using summer foam, it is necessary to ensure that the air temperature is between +5 and +35 degrees.

If all conditions are met, remove the cap from the cylinder, screw on a special tube, and then turn the cylinder over. If you are processing a vertical hole, the process must start from the bottom, moving up. When finished, sprinkle the surface with water, thereby speeding up the curing process.

If after work there are gaps in the surface, re-walk over them with foam and leave it to dry completely (for 8 hours). After the required time, carefully cut off the excess material with a knife.

When using foam as a fixative for products, window or door openings, it is necessary to use spacers to avoid deformation.

  1. For work in cold weather, you need to make a choice in favor of winter or universal foam.
  2. Foam elements remaining on hands or clothing are removed with a solvent or acetone.
  3. You should not buy cheap products, because they are of poor quality, and during the dismantling process there is a high probability of damage to surfaces.
  4. To protect polyurethane from ultraviolet radiation, you can cover it with paint, plaster or putty, or use platbands.
  5. Work can only be done efficiently if the work area is well ventilated and ventilated.
  6. To make the processing of horizontal surfaces and hard-to-reach places less difficult, it is advisable to use a mounting gun.
  7. If the gap to be processed has a width of more than 80 mm, it should be pre-filled with brick, wood or cement mortar.
  8. If the gap, on the contrary, is less than 10 mm, it is better to use putty.

With the help of the above information, you will learn how to easily use mounting foam where necessary. Do not be afraid to start using material unfamiliar to you, because there is nothing difficult in this, and having realized the advantages, you simply will not find an analogue when performing repair and construction work.

In addition, now you can perform almost all the work that was previously entrusted to professionals on your own without special skills and knowledge. Soon you will feel all the benefits of mounting foam.

Video

In addition to the above information - the following video.

Mounting foam was invented almost a hundred years ago. Initially, it was used in the form of a fairly large slab, and after 20 years they learned how to produce foam in special aerosol cans. The first foam cylinder that was used during construction was made in England and used in Sweden.

To date, polyurethane foam is available in two types of cylinders. One is intended for professional construction and is designed for the use of a gun. The second type - can be used at home for one-time work. I wanted to talk in more detail about how to use mounting foam without a gun.

If a gun is not provided for the cylinder, then instead of it a special tube must be screwed onto the adapter. Then you can start using it for its intended purpose. Such a cylinder is not always convenient to use, but it is great for one-time use. This is ideal in that situation, if you need to close up small seams and so on.

It is worth noting the important fact that if you use mounting foam without a gun, then in such a situation it must be applied all at once. Otherwise, you will have to throw away what you didn't use. In order to find out exactly how you can use this building material - watch the video on our website. They will tell you in detail about all the intricacies of its application, which will allow even a beginner in this business to skillfully use this type of material.

Types of mounting foam and their application

It can be found on sale in small cylinders that are filled with either propellant or pre-polymore. Due to the sufficiently high humidity, the composition gradually becomes solid, and its structure becomes quite rigid.

To date, there are only two types of mounting foam, which can be found in any store that specializes in construction.

  1. Foam for professional use. It is sold in cylinders of a sufficiently large size, where you can accommodate more than one and a half liters. Such foam comes out of the package under a sufficiently high pressure and in some cases can be sold complete with tubes (they are used for manual use). It would be unwise to take this type of foam without a gun, because due to the high pressure you will spend too much foam.
  2. Mounting foam, which is used in everyday life, is sold in small bottles, which have half the volume - 600-800 ml, a special tube is also sold with a foam bottle. It has the same specifications as for professional use. It is worth noting that a cylinder of this size can also be used with a pistol. Foam of the second type, as a rule, is used to fill in some minor depressions or seams. Its cost is much lower than professional, although the volume is several times less.

Polyurethane foam is widely used in construction for a variety of purposes. Most often it is used in order to be able to reduce the noise level. This building material is an ideal option for soundproofing. In order to achieve a positive result, it is enough to fill with foam the places where the pipes and all the holes in the walls touch (for details, see the video).

If, for example, there are cracks in the roof, then they can be perfectly sealed by using mounting foam. The same can be done with window or door frames, cold rooms and voids, which are quite often observed directly around pipes.

What is polyurethane foam and its features video

Recently, it has even been used to glue together various kinds of elements. It perfectly and reliably glues a variety of materials and over time they do not peel off, they hold quite firmly. In order to perform these types of work, you can use both professional foam and for domestic use. It is worth noting that before using mounting foam without a gun, you need to know and train, after all, than with a tube.

Step-by-step instructions on how to use foam without a gun

Of course, to some extent, the use of material without the use of a professional tool - a pistol, is not difficult. Instead, a special tube is used, and the instructions are almost the same. More detailed application can be found in the video material.

  • You need to wear gloves to protect your hands from getting foam on them, otherwise you will have to sweat to remove it from your skin.
  • The place where you will blow the foam should be protected as reliably as possible. Remove all debris and dust present there. If the gap has a large size or depth, then, as a rule, it is additionally clogged with small pieces of foam.
  • Shake the bottle for a minute, the instructions for different brands of foam may indicate different times, but on average it is 30-60 seconds. Thanks to shaking, the mounting foam will become as homogeneous as possible, its output will be several times more intense, which will make the work easier, and the process will go several times faster.
  • The planes that are inside the recess must be well moistened, but make sure that water does not drip from them, and there is no excess moisture.
  • Remove a small cap from the balloon, which is put on so that it does not work in advance. On the same ledge, you need to put on a special tube, which is sold complete with mounting foam.
  • Bring the end of the tube about 5 cm to the place you want to fill with foam and then press the valve. It is important to note that the hole is only half filled, because the foam will expand not only at the time when it leaves the balloon, but also for some time after that.
  • After half an hour, you need to re-examine the place that you processed. If there are still holes or unfilled cavities, then add a little more foam. As numerous practice shows, when filling the cavity manually, the foam very often crawls out of its limits, and therefore it is not necessary to additionally fill in the foam. On the contrary, it is necessary to eliminate its excesses.

Some people who rarely use mounting foam are afraid that the foam will not stop beating from the tube even when they release the button. Do not worry about this, because each bottle has a special restrictive valve that will not allow foam to come out immediately after you make the pressure weaker.

After 8 hours, the foam will become as hard as possible and then its excesses need to be cut off. To do this, use the most common, but always sharp knife.

Disadvantages of using mounting foam without a gun

There are not so many disadvantages when using non-professional mounting foam. The experts call the first drawback that with the manual method, a large amount of foam will crawl out of the recess being processed. Even with a pistol it is often impossible to avoid excesses, and in this case there are several times more of them.

Foam mounting feature video
