You have built a house or bought an apartment, and many questions arise before you: “What style to decorate the living room, how to furnish the kitchen, how to decorate the room: bedroom or nursery.” In the course of our article, we will try to give an exhaustive answer to one of these questions regarding bedroom design.
What style to choose in its design, what color schemes are better suited for this than to decorate the walls in the bedroom - our small instruction will tell about this.

Many architectural styles that came to us from the Middle Ages provide for the design of bedrooms in the style of ladies' boudoirs. Of course, over time, life has made its own adjustments to these styles.
After all, the main finishing material of such bedrooms in those days was fabric:

  • It is still used today, but in a slightly different way. Canopies over the bed, which were an indispensable attribute of every boudoir, are practically a thing of the past.
And why be surprised? In the aristocratic houses of the past centuries, the amount of space under the canopy was no less than the modern interior of a small bedroom of 10 square meters.

  • Currently, ceilings or niches at the head of the bed are draped in the form of a canopy. in the bedroom it can also be done with the participation of fabric, but this is most often a fabric-based wallpaper.
And if fabric is still used, then panels made of wood or drywall are covered with it.
  • But the curtains, as they were, have remained the main accessory of the ladies' bedroom. In the styles of baroque, art deco, empire, there were always heavy curtains with lambrequins made of velvet or satin.
Now the range of fabrics has expanded incredibly, which makes it possible to create a wide variety of options for finishing the bedroom.

  • In order not to overload the interior, the emphasis is on one or two details. Curtains, at the same time, can be modest and unremarkable. Pay attention to the photo above.
Here, the drapery of the ceiling with a fabric in a modern interpretation, and the original panel on the wall, and furniture without any frills - a complete mixture of styles. It looks like a boudoir in a modern fusion style.
  • From an aesthetic point of view, it makes no difference whether the walls are finished with fabric or wallpaper. The main goal is to decorate the walls with a pattern or relief.
The quality of modern wallpaper allows you to do without repair for at least ten years: they do not fade in the sun. Having a smooth, even surface, each of us can stick wallpaper on our own, and the price of this material is quite affordable.

  • As you can see in the example above, the walls in the bedroom are decorated only with wallpaper with a pleasant pattern and a neutral hue. No remarkable structures on the ceiling.
Only accessories: elegant furniture, antique-shaped lamps and satin textiles show that the design of a small bedroom of 10 square meters is made in the art deco style.
  • Drawing on the walls can be obtained not only with the help of fabric and wallpaper. In our next example, the patterns on the surface of the walls and ceiling are applied using a stencil.
The walls of the bedroom, located in the attic floor, are lined with plasterboard and painted white. After that, a stencil drawing was applied.

  • By the way, drawings of this type are very relevant for bedrooms. And it is not at all necessary to finish all the walls in this way.
Most often, only one wall or its fragment at the head of the bed is enough. In typical apartments, the bedroom is usually the smallest living room.
  • In a small bedroom, it is very important to complete the decoration so that the room seems more spacious. So, the emphasis on a fragment of the wall distracts attention to itself, visually makes the space of the room larger.
At the same time, the remaining walls should have a neutral monochromatic color.

  • Such a large pattern, as in the image above, over the entire surface of the walls can only be used in spacious rooms. For a small room, a fragment on the wall is enough.
And if you really want to do it, then you need to choose a small flower, or relief, without aggressive patterns.
  • But in a spacious bedroom, everything is allowed, including a combination of patterns with a geometric pattern. In the example below, the decoration of the bedroom is made in the neoclassical style. On the walls - all the same wallpaper.
With their help, the space of the voluminous bedroom is divided into zones. Moreover, in the part where the bed is located, the ceiling is covered with the same wallpaper as the wall.

The second half of the plasterboard false ceiling is pasted over with a glossy film to match the wallpaper. A magnificent chandelier with pendants, lighting around the perimeter of the ceiling, tapestries as textiles and chic finishes - all this makes the interior in the style of modern classics festive and elegant.
And the wallpaper here plays an important role. We will mention them more than once in our article.

Non-trivial solutions

There are many materials and their combinations that can make the bedroom cozy and as pleasant as possible to relax.
For example, decorating a bedroom with wood:

  • This option is more acceptable for - where the bedrooms are often located in the attic. Its walls are sheathed with various types of lining, facade, and even parquet boards, laminate.

  • In or logs, you don’t have to worry about wall decoration. The ideal proportions of calibrated construction wood have a good appearance, and do not need special finishing - it is enough to treat the walls with stain or varnish.
  • In such houses, all attention is paid to the ceiling: ceiling beams are mounted on it, or load-bearing structures are used in the design, hemmed with clapboard or plywood. A wooden surface can be not only painted - it is carved, inlaid, or hand painted, as in our example.

  • In apartments, wood finishing of the bedroom is practically not performed. At least in small spaces.
And if the tree is used, it is very dosed, in the form of a decorative wall decoration at the head of the bed. It can be decorative paneling of the wall with a board, wall panels with imitation of wood texture, or carved panels made of natural wood.

  • Various drywall constructions have become extremely popular, uniting the wall and ceiling in the part of the room where the bed stands. This decoration of the bedrooms, as in the photo below, is more suitable for decorating a recreation area in large studio rooms.
Please note that wallpaper with a large contrasting pattern is also used in this area.

  • In the decor of the bedroom, to create a beautiful relief on one wall, you can use textured wallpaper, linkrust, decorative plaster, various panels with a 3D effect. They can decorate both the head of the bed and the opposite wall.
If you are decorating a room with your own hands, the easiest way is to use either wallpaper with relief or panels.
  • To create such a relief using decorative plaster, professional skills are needed, as, indeed, in working with linkrust. Despite the fact that it is a type of wallpaper, its sticker technology is more complex.
And if you start gluing linkrust like ordinary wallpaper, you can ruin all the material.

  • Panels, as a rule, have a small format, are mounted on glue, which makes this type of finish the easiest. You can use 3D panels in the interior of a bedroom, decorated in a minimalist style.
This modern design attracts with its conciseness and simplicity. And if many architectural styles are designed only for spacious rooms, in the style of minimalism it is quite possible to decorate a small-sized bedroom.
  • Again, wallpaper can help visually expand a small room. See how impressive the design of a small bedroom of 9 square meters looks with photo wallpapers on the wall.
The bottom line is that any image of the street, natural landscapes, city panoramas will expand the space of any room, creating a feeling of spaciousness. If you have a small bedroom, why not create a similar interior?

  • In principle, the image on the wallpaper can be anything. Let's give another example with wallpaper, but with a 3D effect.
They trimmed a decorative niche on the wall, made of drywall. Both this niche and the mirrored doors of the cabinet next to it create a feeling of depth and spaciousness in a small bedroom.
This is facilitated by the design of a two-level ceiling with a recess in the center of the room.

  • Few people would think of using ceramic mosaic tiles on the bedroom wall instead of photo wallpaper. And yet, it can be done.
Look at the photo: the same roses, only in a different quality. And the color for the bedroom is unusual - gray.
  • But, as you can see, the gray walls and floor, combined with white furniture, look just great. A spacious room with modest wall decoration, elegant furniture and a crystal chandelier shows that this interior belongs to the Art Nouveau style.

There are a lot of materials on the Internet on the topic “Bedroom decoration”: videos, photos, articles. We also gave you many examples of design: both small bedrooms and spacious rooms.
And we really hope that they will help you make a choice, get a good idea and create an interior that will be one and only.
