To build a garage from a metal profile with your own hands is within the power of every homeowner. You don't need specific skills. It is enough to study the technology and follow its basic requirements.

What is a metal profile garage

A metal profile garage is a durable and convenient parking space. It does not require a strong foundation, large financial costs and building skills.

Metal profile - profiled steel sheet coated with a polymer layer. The material is used for facing walls, partitions, fences. To protect against rust, metal profile sheets are treated with a zinc or aluminum-zinc coating. Sometimes aluminosilicon is used, but it is less resistant to external influences. Zinc-aluminum provides the best protection.

Experts consider the metal profile the best building material for the construction of small buildings. Among the main advantages are:

  1. Mounting speed. It can take a couple of days to build a garage from a metal profile.
  2. Ease of construction. The builder may not have specific skills, it is enough to follow the basic rules for the construction of buildings.
  3. Low cost of materials and labor. Even if you have to hire professionals to build a garage, the cost of services will be several times cheaper than when building a stone building.
  4. Durability. A metal profile with a high-quality polymer coating can last up to 30 years.
  5. Mobility. If necessary, the metal profile structure can be dismantled and moved to another location.
  6. Fire resistance.
  7. The metal profile is a lightweight material. Due to this, it can be used for the construction of temporary buildings in places where the construction of capital garages is prohibited by law.

However, there are certain disadvantages:

  1. Possibility of deformation upon impact. After that, it is impossible to return the sheet to its original form, but it can be replaced.
  2. Weak thermal conductivity. The corrugated garage is very cold. The problem is solved with the help of internal insulation of the building.
  3. Increased noise level during rain. You can get rid of this with the help of insulating materials.

Material selection

From the point of view of the end consumer, a metal profile is a corrugated metal sheet impregnated with several coatings. When choosing a material for building a garage, you need to pay attention to the marking:

  1. The letter "H" characterizes the bearing capacity. A metal profile with such a mark is distinguished by a large sheet thickness and wave height. Additional grooves increase the rigidity of the material.
  2. "NS" is a load-bearing-wall metal profile with an average wave and sheet thickness.
  3. "C" - wall corrugated board. It is used in sheathing erected walls.

The metal profile marked "H" is considered the strongest, therefore, when building a garage from scratch, it is worth using it.

The numbers placed in the marking immediately after the letter indicate the height of the wave. This indicator can be from 8 to 100 mm. Indirectly, this also speaks of the thickness of the material.

For example, the parameters of sheet H-75 are as follows:

  • The sheet thickness is in the range of 0.7–1.0 mm.
  • Maximum load per 1 square meter of sheet - from 9.2 kg to 12.0 kg.
  • Wave height - 75 mm.

It is very easy to calculate the amount of metal profile that will be needed during construction, it is enough to determine the size of the building. The length of the building is equal to the width of several sheets. The height of the garage from the foundation to the roof is equal to the height of one sheet. When purchasing material, you should add 10 percent to the given length of the building - this is necessary for joining the sheets with an overlap.

In addition to the metal profile, the following materials, tools and components will be needed during the construction process:

  1. Frame pipes.
  2. Insulation.
  3. Tools: screwdriver, drill, wire cutters, levels, shovels, mixing container.
  4. Consumables: self-tapping screws, profiles, sand, crushed stone, cement.

Before purchasing materials and starting work, it is necessary to find and clear a site for the future building and draw up a detailed drawing.

Site selection and preparation

When choosing a site for building a garage, you need to be guided by expediency and convenience. If some place is more suitable for building a bathhouse or gazebo, you can choose another site for the garage. The main requirement is the absence of obstacles to the exit of the car.

Ideally, the garage gate line should be flush with the fence line. This guarantees the unimpeded exit of the car to the street and allows you not to put a fence on this site.

In order to save money, a metal profile garage can be attached to an existing building. In this case, you can not build one of the walls, but due to the increased noise transmission of the material, the extension does not need to be installed next to the residential building.

For the construction of a garage, you can not choose a place with fertile land. Decay of organic matter will begin under the building, as a result of which the structure may be skewed.

The selected area is cleared of debris and thickets and marked with pegs, reinforcement and rope, which will indicate the placement of all sides of the future garage.

Drafting

Creating a drawing showing all sizes and materials is not a prerequisite for building a garage, but it is very useful for people who do not have experience in construction.

In the drawing, you can indicate all the dimensions and characteristics of the future structure, including the slope of the roof and the height of the floor. The standard garage parameters for one car are as follows:

  • The length of the building is 6 meters.
  • Width - 3 meters.
  • The height of the walls is 2 meters. Another half a meter or a little more falls on the roof.

The drawing shows all the details, their placement and dimensions.

When creating a drawing and building, you need to remember that insulating materials will take away part of the internal space.

For small mobile garages, it will be enough to draw up a drawing of the “box” itself. It consists of two schemes:

  1. Building frame drawing.
  2. Sewing drawing.

In the event that a stationary structure is being erected, installed in a permanent place, drawings of the foundation and inspection pit can also be added.

The width of the pit depends on the dimensions of the car.

  1. The surface is covered with sand. It should be below the walls of the viewing hole by about 10 centimeters.
  2. A damper tape is fixed around the entire perimeter of the foundation. It will prevent the possible deformation of the floor when the temperature rises or falls.
  3. A layer of waterproofing is laid on the filled and compacted sand. For this, a thick film of polyethylene or roofing material is suitable.
  4. A reinforcing mesh is laid on the waterproofing layer. The diameter of the rods is 10–12 mm.
  5. Concrete is poured on top. The finished surface is straightened by the rule.

The laid floor must dry. This may take up to three weeks.

Wireframe creation

There are two main ways to mount the frame:

  1. Welding of the frame with subsequent fixation on the prepared site.
  2. Installation of support racks with further installation of slats in place.

You should get a similar design:

Roof elements are attached separately

In the first version, the frame is assembled separately from the foundation. All elements are carefully measured according to a previously developed plan, cut and welded together. The assembled structure is installed on the foundation and fastened with self-tapping screws. Sometimes the structure is assembled in separate blocks directly on the foundation, in which case the individual blocks are welded or fastened with long screws.

The second method requires intervention at the stage of creating the foundation. For the installation of support posts to the depth of freezing of the soil, pits are dug. To do this, you can use a regular garden drill. Corner posts are installed in the pits. They are aligned horizontally and vertically and are considered reference. The remaining vertical racks are set along them, the top of which should form a single horizontal plane. Then the pits and the strip foundation are poured with concrete.

The number of vertical posts depends on the size of the garage and the type of metal profile used. On average, it is enough to install 2–3 supports on each sheet with a distance between them of 0.6–0.8 m.

In this way, the supports are installed on three sides, the fourth remains for mounting the gate. For swing gates, it is enough to make two simple quadrangular frames for the leaves, install steel hinges on them and on the outer posts and hang the resulting structures. If necessary, additional stiffeners are added.

After the solution has set, you can proceed with the installation of the upper and lower trim and horizontal strips. They are attached to vertical supports by welding or self-tapping screws at a distance of 0.5 m from each other.

If in the future it is planned to equip a shed roof, one of the sides is made higher than the rest. A gable roof requires the creation of a rather complex truss system.

Installation of a metal profile

Installing a profiled sheet is the easiest step in assembling a garage. The corrugated board is mounted vertically, which ensures the timely removal of water.

As fasteners, self-tapping screws with a rubberized gasket are used. It securely closes the hole, does not scratch the sheet and prevents moisture from getting inside.

The work takes place in several stages:

  1. Installation of the first sheet. It is attached to the corner post with self-tapping screws and a screwdriver. First, the upper corner is attached, then the entire side, after which the metal profile can be sewn around the entire perimeter. The average distance between the screws is 30 cm, or "through the wave", with the exception of the last one.
  2. Installation of subsequent sheets. Installation occurs "overlapping" on one wave. In this place, two sheets are attached to the frame, then the sheet is sewn along the profile. The last wave remains free and connects with the next skin element.
  3. An important stage is the processing of joints with sealant. This must be done so that water does not get inside.

Roof installation

The roof of the garage from a metal profile can be single-pitched or gable. This must be determined at the design stage of the building. If the garage is adjacent to other buildings, it is worth limiting yourself to one slope. Its slope must be at least 8 degrees.

All elements of the system are installed separately

Installation takes place in several successive stages:

  1. Assembling the roof frame and roof sheathing. When arranging a gable roof, rafter pairs are attached, reinforced with metal slopes. Their number is equal to the number of vertical supports.
  2. Sheet stacking. Installation occurs with an overlap of one wave or 20 cm. The joints are filled with bituminous sealants. 30-40 centimeters of the metal profile must be left on the overhang over the edge.
  3. Roofing metal profile sheets are attached not through the wave, as in the wall version, but on each wave. Self-tapping screws with a rubberized head are used, hiding holes and not letting moisture through.

Warming and finishing

To insulate a garage from a metal profile, glass or mineral wool is used. It is preferable to use mineral wool, it has a high fire resistance. The process of warming and finishing is as follows:

  1. Cotton mats are selected. Thickness - from 50 to 100 mm.
  2. Thermal insulation film is attached to the wall. It does not allow heat to leave the room and prevents the formation of condensate.
  3. Cotton mats are fastened between the vertical racks of the frame. This can be done with slats or special glue. Gates and roof sheets are insulated in the same way.
  4. As an internal decorative coating, you can use thin sheets of aluminum or corrugated board. Many builders recommend not installing an additional coating, as it provokes the accumulation of condensate.

Mineral wool sheets are placed between the vertical supports of the frame

Roll material can also be used to insulate the garage. Its installation requires the preliminary installation of a rack frame. The transverse planks, metal or wooden, are attached to the main frame at a distance of 50–60 cm. A roll insulation is placed under these planks.

The finished metal profile garage is painted with anti-corrosion paint. This increases the life of the building.

By following a number of simple rules, you will become the owner of your own corrugated garage. If necessary, it can be easily converted into a workshop, warehouse or other utility room.
